Donate YOU

Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, 'What's in it for me?'” --Brian Tracy

Tracy is correct in the realization that the more you give the more you get in life. I know all the penny pinchers out there will give every reason why NOT to give and I understand that people work hard for their money. BUT... it is not enough just to say that you worked hard for your money and keep it locked up until the day you die. It is not any one's place to say what you do or don't do with your money, but if it's not money you give then give other things such as: time, your heart, your shoulder to cry on when someone needs it or even those cans of food that have been sitting in your cupboard for too long.

Everyone hears about the "Season of Giving" but no one really stops to think... why does THIS season have to be designated as the one for giving? GIVE what you have to others all the time without asking "What's in it for me?" Do something out of your comfort zone for another person and see how you feel. Be some one's hero and don't worry about the people who question your intentions or laugh at your efforts.

Donate YOU. Be the change.

Generations of Peace To Come

“Nonviolence means avoiding not only external physical violence but also internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him.”
        —Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As we at Peace Pandemic think about our focus on building peace and promoting understanding through cross-cultural cooperation, it is important to contemplate how to best focus on restorative justice and peace for the future. Encouraging the human-to-human connection is a promising tool, seeking more than the end of day-to-day violence. Learning about the wide world, experiencing new friendships, and learning about dealing with social challenges is all part of the journey to finding lasting peace.

It is amazing to see the resiliance of children and their ability to see the humanity in others. We must encourage them to be our future leaders, our future peacemakers.

Peace be with you

"Peace is not something you wish for; it's something you make, something you do, something you are, and something you give away."
      --Robert Fulghum

Searching for peace is an intricate pursuit, involving the burning desire and active participation of entire communities. How can we encourage the leadership in youth needed to work for peace in their own lifetimes and empower them to be the change their communities may desperately seek?

Bringing this week to a close, we have two new developments for Peace Pandemic.

First, Father Hesburgh has graciously written us an endorsement letter, expressing his belief in our mission to promote peace and encourage social justice in youth around the world. We are incredibly grateful for his support.

Second, Professor John Darby, a professor of comparative ethnic studies at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at Notre Dame has agreed to be on Peace Pandemic's advisory board. He is an amazing inspiration to the encouragement of peace through conflict resolution and has been a tremendous resource to us. We look forward to our continued work with him.

Peace! Hannah

Break the Ignorance

Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.
- Albert Einstein

Educating ourselves about things that we are afraid of or simply don't know a lot about makes us more at peace with the world around us. Fear and hatred are products of ignorance so if we make an effort to reach out and understand others or then we set the table for justice and peace to prevail!

One love,

Jeb

Quote/Thought of the Day

"To go against the dominant thinking of your friends, of most of the people you see every day, is perhaps the most difficult act of heroism you can perform."
- Theodore H. White

Too often we are trapped in the groupthink of our friends or culture in general. The youth of the world must look at the future through a different lens. We need a paradigm shift. Go outside your comfort zone and do something to help another today. Despite what others say, think or believe...be a leader of change. Peace is too "idealistic" and "lofty" of a word for most. Peace is practical for YOU.

Be Peace.

WELCOME TO PEACE PANDEMIC

Hello! We are pleased to present Peace Pandemic Corp., an up and coming non-profit that plans to empower youth through peaceful action. We will be teaching leadership and nonviolence through sports, providing soccer camps to youth ages 8-18 in the United States as well in international sites. Each camp held in the United States will fund one of our international camps held in an area affected by conflict, human rights controversy, and/or economic hardship. Campers will be able to connect with one another through shared letters, pictures, and video that will be taken from each of the camps.

Our first two international camps will be held in Tanzania and Israel in the coming summer of 2011.

Our four tenets encompassed in each week long soccer camp include:
  • Development of soccer skills/knowledge
  • Development of leadership skills
  • Education on nonviolence and peaceful conflict resolution
  • Inspiring the leaders and peacemakers of tomorrow through sport
Peace Pandemic looks to give people all across the world the empowerment and inspiration to “ be the change they wish to see in the world.”
